Alberta Rural Entrepreneur Stream
How It Works?
The Rural Entrepreneur process involves the following steps:
1
Step 1
Entrepreneurs begin by making an exploratory visit to connect with local business contacts, community economic development officers, and other relevant stakeholders. This visit helps entrepreneurs learn about the local business landscape and the requirements for establishing a successful business in the chosen region. The goal of this step is to enable prospective entrepreneurs to make an informed decision about operating and managing a business in rural Alberta.
2
Step 2
The entrepreneur provides the community contact with a copy of the Rural Entrepreneur Stream Business Proposal Summary.
3
Step 3
If the business project is deemed beneficial and likely to have a positive impact on the community, a Community Support Letter will be issued. This letter endorses the project, confirming that the community supports its development in Alberta.
4
Step 4
After receiving the Community Support Letter, the entrepreneur can submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP).

Advantages
The Alberta Rural Entrepreneur Stream is a program designed to attract entrepreneurs who wish to start or take over a business in rural Alberta communities. It helps create job opportunities while supporting economic growth in regions outside the Calgary and Edmonton metropolitan areas.
Applicants must have the skills and experience to establish or manage a business, be willing to invest in a rural Alberta community, and meet specific criteria outlined by the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP), including providing a business proposal and obtaining community support.
A Community Support Letter is issued when a proposed business project is deemed beneficial to a rural community. This letter indicates that the community is aware of and supports the development of the business within the region, helping strengthen the application for provincial nomination.
The program is open to communities in rural Alberta with a population of under 100,000, excluding the Calgary and Edmonton metropolitan areas. These communities are eligible for designation under the Rural Entrepreneur Stream.
After receiving a Community Support Letter, applicants can submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) to be considered for provincial nomination. The EOI is the formal step to apply for permanent residence.
Yes, you can apply if you intend to start a new business or take over an existing business in rural Alberta. However, you must demonstrate that your business will create jobs and positively impact the local community.
